CPA founder Catherine Gurney OBE, was born on 19th June 1848 and passed into Glory on 11th August 1930.
In one of her last written messages she said “With HIM, nothing is impossible, and if we will only trust HIM, He will show us the way out of every difficulty. In simple language we are told (Proverbs 3:5-6), ‘Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths’. Therefore, let us obediently, steadily and cheerfully GO FORWARD.”
Catherine Gurney went forward and created an amazing legacy of charities for the police service in general, not just the Christian Police Association. After she set up the CPA, a number of other charities were set up, all in support of the police service, and they are still active. Don Axcell’s book “Where Duty Calls” is an excellent read, going into really interesting detail about Catherine Gurney and all aspects of our charity. Check it out on Amazon!
