I’ve been in the Met for over three decades now and for approximately half of that I’ve been doing something on the public order front. Currently I’m a public order commander which means that when called upon (which is becoming more frequent these days) I am responsible for three sergeants and 21 police officers being deployed to high risk public order events such as demos, protests, football matches etc.
Since becoming a Christian half way through my police career, I’ve found myself becoming very prayerful when deployed to a public order event. My biggest concern at these events, which can become very violent, is not for my own personal safety (although I don’t mind admitting that I’m not a big fan of pain), but for that of my officers…
