I hope that 2024 has started well for you. At the beginning of each year I think it’s a good opportunity to reflect on our staff support network and look at how we can positively impact our workplaces and our communities in Lancashire. Our mission is this:
- To be a Voice for Christians in Policing,
- To encourage and support Christians in the Police Service,
- To communicate in words and action the truth, message and hope of the Gospel of Jesus Christ,
- To build bridges between the Christian Community and the Police.
I have been really encouraged that we have recently gained new members and also that Churches are regularly becoming CPA Friends and Community Partners. I look at the positive partnerships we have formed with the Street Angels in Accrington recently and the relationships we have had for many years with Good News for Everyone and Street Pastors in Preston. These partnerships are so important. Chief Constable Chris Rowley, who has been a great support to our network and will be sadly missed when he retires in March 2024, recently commented on the work of the CPA thanking us, stating, “Thank you so much for the update and the work that you are doing, both for those within the organisation, and building relationships between the organisation and the Christian Community. This is critical work and I am extremely grateful.” We will be welcoming speakers from Good News for Everyone, Safe Families and Street Pastors to give updates about their work at the National Conference this year. At the Leaders Conference in November we were encouraged to consider whether we have a healthy branch of the CPA in each force and on the whole I think we have, but there are plenty of ways we can improve. This year we will be looking to form a wider leadership team in the CPA so that we can further achieve our mission. One way we can strengthen is by having a Branch Prayer Co-ordinator, as prayer is so important in what we do. So if this is something you feel you could contribute, please let me know.
At our next CPA monthly meeting on Monday 5th February 2024 at 7pm at All Saints Church, Elizabeth Street, Preston PR1 2RX we will be discussing how the Christian Police Association has left a legacy over the 140 years since Catherine Gurney formed the network and how we can continue this by looking at the health of our CPA branch and what we need to improve to continue this rich legacy. Newly appointed Police Chaplain Rev Nathan Buttery will also be sharing with us. Please try and attend.
I am grateful to all those who are on the planning team for the National Christian Police Association Conference which we are hosting this year between Friday 14th June and Sunday 16th June. The booking window for the Conference will be opening between Monday 22nd January and Friday 1st March. Therefore if you would like to attend the conference please let me know and we will get the booking forms submitted. The information leaflet is attached. With the conference being in Lancashire we can potentially keep the costs down by delegates attending on the days of the conference but returning home at the end of the day so that rooms do not need to be booked. It would be great to have a good team of us from Lancashire at the Conference. Please let me know if you want to attend and we will look at getting your duties amended.
We have received an invite from one of our CPA Friends Pete Baker, the co-senior leader of Life Church, Burnley who has invited us to attend a Prayer and Worship Celebration at Life Church, Burnley on Sunday 21st January, between 7.30pm and 9.00pm as the culmination of their 48 hours on non-stop Prayer for Lancashire. It would be great if we can have some Lancashire Constabulary Police Officers and staff from the CPA present at the celebration so that we can join together and pray for our communities, again building those bridges between the Christian community and the Police. Please let me know if you can attend.
Finally, we have the date for the amazing Lancashire Constabulary Family Fun Day at Capernwray Hall which will take place on Saturday 11th May 2024. Force Chaplain Steve Cowles organises this every year and it is such a great day out with plenty of activities for the family. Please, if you have not attended this previously come along as you will not regret it.
