Mental and Spiritual Wellbeing – Brian McCarthy:
Recently I came across an article by Rabbi David Lapin on the difference between fatigue and depletion. It had never dawned on me that there was a subtle difference in the two conditions. I put into practice his suggestions and felt immediately better.
Rabbi Lapin contends that ‘fatigue‘ is where a muscle or your mind has been used to exhaustion and requires rest to replenish and recuperate. Whereas ‘depletion‘ occurs when our spiritual, emotional and intellectual resources are drained; not always through exertion.
He uses a great analogy of an empty glass of water. No amount of resting the glass will refill it.
