You Are the Light of the World – Brian McCarthy:
One of the periods I love best from scripture, is the time following the resurrection. Jesus reassured everyone, that everything was just as it was supposed to be. Despite so many things appearing to be to the contrary. Jesus greeted the terrified disciples with an unexpected, “Peace be with you!” Although, in truth, He will have said, “Shalom!”
Today more than ever, I think that people are finding themselves to be like the two dejected men on the road to Emmaus. I hear friends neighbours, and even family discussing the seemingly constant flow of bad news. The weight of world and home events is swinging from argument to counter-argument, completely skimming over the Truth, and challenging us. As we heard in Luke 24:18, “Do you not know the things that have happened in these days?”
As Christians, we are carriers of the “Light of the World.” With Christian faith, we become cities on a hill that cannot be hidden. Esther 4:14 ESV tells us, ”And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” This is not a time to be downcast. Your time has come to shine.
