Request from the College of Policing

17 Mar 2023

Dear Branch Leaders,

Please circulate this opportunity as appropriate – it is an opportunity for CPA members in a PC role to be involved at the development stage of the new journey to find suitable police officer recruits. This is important and if you feel led, email [email protected] to offer your support. Details in the text and document below.

Subject: Supporting police officer recruitment – Online assessment process exercise pilot

Good afternoon

The College of Policing are currently in the process of refreshing the exercises for the online assessment process for initial police recruitment across England and Wales. (For those less familiar, further information on the process can be found here – Sift and online assessment process | College of Policing<https://gbr01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.college.police.uk%2Fcareer-learning%2Fjoining-police%2Fonline-assessment-process&data=05%7C01%7CMarie.Reavey%40norfolk.pnn.police.uk%7Cfb95423898034f18be9a08db09263a9f%7C63c6bc72b09342dbbf8a14e2a998e211%7C0%7C0%7C638113832174059408%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&sdata=TF9eEYRptmiKAg75a7A7jYK4e6lpGoUqBAoUGNRNXAM%3D&reserved=0>).

As part of the design process, we are piloting/testing draft exercises with candidates and PCs to help develop the exercises. Since inviting over 250 individuals to take part, we have had limited attendance of less than 25 participants so are seeking more volunteers.

Our goal is to ensure the next suite of exercises are fair, realistic, appropriate for future applicants to the service. To achieve this, it is vital that a diverse cohort of participants take part and provide their feedback. We are therefore asking for your support as chairs and leads of associations and networks to support us by extending our invitation to PC’s who are part of your associations – we need at least another 50 people to take part!

Not only does taking part support successful and fair recruitment in the future, but it is also a great opportunity for people to have a go at a national assessment using the competency and values framework (CVF) as part of their development.

If you can help in any way to engage some of your colleagues at PC ranks or reach out to any contacts who could find us a high number of participants, we would be extremely grateful for your support. We have attached a letter of invitation that can be shared with PC’s.

Thank you in advance, and if you have any questions, please contact us at [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>

Kind regards

Ashleigh

Please note: Please be mindful of only inviting those currently in a PC role and not those eligible to apply for entry roles into policing (e.g. not PCSO’s, Special Constables, Police Staff etc.).
